UC Library uses the Library of Congress Classification scheme to assign call numbers. Items on the same topic are shelved together. Use the Library catalogue to find the call number and then write it down.
Call numbers appear in the following format on the catalogue - RM170.5.D53 2011 but appear as below on the item -
RM read first line in alphabetical order
170 read as a whole number
.5 sometimes there is a decimal point, but not always
.D53 find the letter first, then numbers
2011 publication date
To locate the item on the shelf determine its availability and location.
Once you have found the item take it to Level B to borrow at the self check machine or at the Information & Loans Desk.
You will need your student card.
