All residents of Australia are eligible to access the NLA and its collection. You must apply for a National Library of Australia library card to use materials in the Library. Online resources can be used in the Library building.

The National Library is a closed-stack collection, meaning that all books must be retrieved for you by staff. After joining the Library, you can request books in advance of your visit via the National Library Catalogue or iPhone app.
