Microsoft Teams combines chat, video conferencing, file sharing, and app integration into one unified workspace.

In a Teams meeting, one person can record at a time. When you start recording a meeting, everyone will be notified automatically. You can also turn on live transcripts and view them during the meeting.

To start recording a meeting using Microsoft Teams:

  • Start or join the meeting.
  • From within the Teams meeting viewing pane, open your meeting controls, select More actions  Microsoft Teams more options iconRecord and transcribe  Record and transcribe iconStart recording  Record and transcribe icon.

It's important to remember that meeting recordings will not retain the following:

  • More than four peoples' video streams at once.

  • Whiteboards, annotations, or shared notes.

  • Content shared by apps.

  • Videos or animations embedded in PowerPoint Live presentations.

To stop recording a meeting:

  • In the meeting controls, select More actions More options button > Record and transcribe  Record and transcribe icon.

  • Choose one of the following options:

    • Stop recording to stop both the recording and live transcription.

    • Stop transcription to stop the live transcription only. The recording will continue until you select Stop recording.

    • Recorded meetings will be stored in the meeting organiser's OneDrive.

    • If you are meeting in an existing Teams channel, the recording will also appear in that Team's chat conversation. Details including the meeting's chat transcript, shared files or links, meeting details and the Q&A (if activated) will be accessible from there.
