Go to the Library Subject Guides and select "Law"

Once you are in the Law Subject Guide, hover over the Primary Materials tab and select "Find Case Law"

Case law databases are listed under "Find case law (online)".

Westlaw AU

Once you are in Westlaw AU, click on Cases in the left hand menu.

1.     Find cases by Keywords

Enter keywords into the Free Text search box.
e.g. negligent misrepresentation
Click Search.

2.     Find Cases by Case Name or Party Name
Enter case name or party name into the Case Title/Party Name search box.
e.g. Chong v Commissioner of Taxation
Click Search.

3.     Find cases by Citation
Enter the citation into the Citation search box.
e.g. 55 FCR 452
Click Search.


Lexis Advance

Click on Lexis Advance from the list of databases,.

1.     Find cases by Citation 
Click on "Casebase Cases" under publications and choose "Go To Advanced Search"

Enter the citation into the "Citation" search box.
e.g. (2001) 183 ALR 1
Click Search (at the bottom of the screen).

2.     Find Cases by Name
Click on "Casebase Cases" under publications and choose "Go To Advanced Search"

Enter case name into the "Case Name" search box.
e.g. Ali v Hartley Poynton Ltd 
Click Search (at the bottom of the screen).

3.     Find cases by Topic
YOu can do a general search across all publications by entering your search terms into the Red Search box at the top of the Lexis Advance screen.
Narrow your search by clicking on "Legal Topics"  - part of the drop down options next to "Search Everything"
Check the box next to the relevant topic. T
e.g. Defamation (subtopic) under Torts & Civil Liabilities.
Click Search.


CCH IntelliConnect

Once you are in CCH IntelliConnect, you can either search or browse areas of law to find cases.

1.   Search

Enter search terms/keywords in to the Search/Browse search box.
e.g. negligence
Click Search.
The results screen will display all available document types. To find cases only, click on by Document Type from the left hand menu and select Cases.

2.   Browse

On the home screen, use the left hand menu to navigate to a particular area of law.
Cases in a particular area will be listed as a subtopic
e.g. Occupational Health & Safety > Australian Work Health and Safety Law - Cases
